Jennifer Stark & Russell Stark Profile
Russell and son Robert Stark attended a Buteyko course for asthma in 1993. The improvement in their condition was so amazing that Russell and Jennifer decided to train with Russian Buteyko teacher, Alexander Stalmatski. They also attended advanced training with Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, Ludmilla Buteyko and Andrey Novozhilov.
The Starks were the first people to teach the Buteyko method in New Zealand and were instrumental in its development throughout several other countries by training more than eighty new practitioners who teach the techniques around the world.
They have taught more than 8000 people with breathing problems such as asthma, allergies, anxiety, blocked nose, insomnia, snoring, sleep apnoea, panic and hyperventilation attacks, as well as teaching in several clinical trials and studies. They have published a book that explains the theory of the Buteyko Method, and how to improve the control of several conditions. This book is called The Carbon Dioxide Syndrome.
After this mammoth effort they decided to return to Brisbane, their hometown, and currently teach the techniques there. However, they are still available for training new practitioners in many parts of the globe. The Starks are foundation members of the Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health (BIBH) and also belong to the Remedial Breathing Practitioners Association Incorporated (RBPAI). Their training is recognised by both groups and it is possible to train with the Starks and their colleagues around the world. "What I love most about teaching Buteyko is that it makes people come alive. They not only breathe better but they also have more energy, and improved sleep The other amazing thing about it is that you make the improvements simply by following the programme that is designed by the teacher."
Jennifer Stark, Senior Buteyko Practitioner
“I love seeing those with long-term illness have their scepticism about Buteyko turn into hope of good health. And then watch them turn the hope into reality as they follow the Buteyko programme. Getting Buteyko accepted world-wide so that this can happen to people all round the world is my goal.”
